St James had to settle for a draw in an entertaining game at the Gillett Playing Fields.

The home side suffered the early loss of Steve Foster with nine runs on the board.

Rob Wood was joined at the crease by Steven McNally and they put on a 90 run stand before McNally was out for 47 which included seven fours.

Gareth Deakin (60) and Wood (66) kept the scoreboard ticking over as they reached 153.

St James struggled to get in their stride again and declared on 184 to try to go for a win.

In reply, Portland Wines were in trouble at 39-2 as Philip Jackson tore into the two openers.

Jackson added to his tally with the score on 141 as he dismissed the impressive Van Der Merwe on 51.

Portland Wine quickened the run rate but Paul McNally Junior grabbed some crucial wickets on his way to 4-22 as the visitors ran out of overs. Jackson finished with 3-51.

Elsewhere, the 2nd team lost by eight wickets to Hesketh Bank 2nd team in their Division Four clash.
