Garry Flitcroft's phenomenal start to his tenure as Chorley manager continued with another win, another superb team performance and another hat-trick to boot!
Despite going a goal behind early on, the Magpies dusted themselves down to put in arguably their best football performance of the season to date to effectively wrap the game up inside an hour.
The normally steady Aaron Grundy gifted the visitors the lead on 13 minutes when, following his failure to hold a low cross he conceded a spot kick in his eager attempts to get the ball back. Ex-Magpies midfielder Karl Brown calmly converted.
From here onto the final minute it was more or less all Chorley, and had it not been for Faria Jackson in the Cables goal the goal tally could have made double figures!
Following this set back Tom Ince saw a shot blocked and Jackson saved well from Mark Houghton after Dale Whitham put him through.
The equaliser came five minutes after the opener when Shelton Payne's pace took him to the bye line and his cross was bundled over the line by another ex-Magpie, Francis Foy.
Jack Dorney tested Jackson then combined with Houghton superbly, but the shot was blocked.
The lead was taken when another Payne cross was stabbed home by Whitham from close range.
Dorney then had a chance cleared off the line the Houghton played an excellent pass to Whitham who slotted home superbly.
Grundy returned to normal service with a great save at the other end, but Prescot just couldn't live with the Magpies attacking power and a fourth goal arrived when Mark Houghton curled home from the angle of the 18 yard box.
The second half kicked off with Jamie Vermiglio replacing Steve Flitcoft, but it was Whitham who continued to shine in the centre of the park.
Dorney had two early chances, first turning a Houghton cross just wide then seeing a shot blocked after twisting and turning in the box to make space for himself.
The fifth, and best, goal of the game came on 57 minutes when a moment of individual magic saw Dale Whitham complete his hat-trick with a superb lob from 35 yards.
In the remaining 30 minute the home side could and should have added more goals to the tally as Payne and Dorney both had two chances amongst others.
A laps in concentration from Tom Walker in injury time game Prescot a late consolation, but the result means the Magpies remain top of the table, with Skelmersdale and Saturday's visitors to Victory Park AFC Fylde both just two points behind
