Defeat for Magpies

Chorley 1 Blackburn Rovers 2

CHORLEY manager Garry Flitcroft was not able to mastermind a win over his former club as the Magpies rounded their pre-season campaign in defeat.

Former Preston North End star Simon Whalley started for the hosts as they dominated the early exchanges as Dale Whitham, Chris Denham and Lee McEvilly going close before half-time.

After the break both sides rang the changes, but one concern for Flitcroft ahead of their trip to North Ferriby United in the Evostik Premier Division was Tom Walker limping off after a challenge.

Former Preston North End star Simon Whalley replaced him and Chorley opened the scoring with a free-kick by Shelton Payne that curled into the far corner.

Their lead was short-lived after a goalkeeping blunder by Dean Porter after allowing the ball go under his body.

Blackburn reserve side boasted three players from the first team tour to Hong Kong Nick Blackman, Adam Henley and Zac Aley and they wrapped up the win when Sean Cooke scored from the penalty spot on 59 minutes.
