Defence keeps out Rangers

Adlington Rangers 16 Golborne 52

Adlington Rangers played top of league Golborne on Saturday.

They made a good start, passing the ball about, with forwards Paul Cookson and Tony Fitzgerald running hard.

Rangers put all the early pressure on, but Golborne were managing to keep them out with three man tackles stifling all progress.

After a neat kick ahead, Richard Wareing regathered to scoot in for a try, which he goaled to take Rangers into the lead.

This was short-lived as Golbourne raced upfield and cut through weak defending to level.

Golbourne were in their stride and passing the ball well to go in for a second try.

Rangers hit back when Fitzgerald took the ball at pace to scatter the defenders and score - Wareing was on target with the kick to take Rangers back into the lead.

Golbourne were too quick for Rangers and went in for a try to regain the lead, which they held on to for the rest of the game.

Rangers grabbed another try in the second-half when Paul Dootson and Michael Prescott both dived on the ball for the score.

Rangers battled it out to the end but were well beaten at the final whistle.
