Dropped chances proved costly for White Coppice in their match at Torrisholme.
In a match reduced to 35-overs-a-side, Torrisholme posted an impressive 171-5, despite Wayne Dixon taking 5-56 off 15 overs.
It should have been a lot less but for several dropped catches and misfields.
Simon Croft captured the key wicket of veteran Grahame Clarke for just 13 with a lovely bit of bowling.
Clarke, who scored 158 against Coppice last season, was beaten all hands up by a ball that cut in late and almost bowled him. The next ball started on middle and leg and swung out to clip the top of off.
Coppice needed to score at five-an-over but a big boundary and defensive fields meant that only managed eight fours and two sixes in their entire innings.
Kyle Dixon (38) and Chris Maguire (31) took the score past 50 but both fell as the run rate climbed.
Wayne Dixon bludgeoned a quickfire 21 but Coppice know they’ll need to improve ahead of Saturday’s visit of Hoghton.
n White Coppice remain top of Division Four of the Palace Shield after a seven-wicket win against Penwortham 3rds.
The return of Michael Atkinson Snr has really strengthened the batting line-up and his unbeaten 61 was the cornerstone of their successful run chase of Penwortham’s 151-7.
He was well supported by captain Steve Harris (27) and Carl Bromley (31) in what must be one of the division’s strongest top orders. Earlier Mick Brown took 4-63.
