Emily's tee-riffic

A talented Chorley schoolgirl has broken an age-old record by becoming the youngest golfer to win the Lancashire Women's championship.

St Michael's High School pupil Emily Taylor beat 46 other players to rewrite the history books by winning the trophy aged just 14 years and seven months.

The good news did not end there for the young Royal Lytham and St Anne's Club player, as she also earned a call-up to the Lancashire Ladies A squad.

She will be part of the eight-woman team competing in the Northern Counties match against Yorkshire, Cheshire and Northumberland from June 22-26.

Lancashire Women's captain Linda Wilson said: "Emily is very special and her coaches at Royal Lytham have taught her well.

"She is a very focused individual, which is great for a 14-year-old. In her back garden she has a putting and chipping area and it is amazing that she puts long hours of practice there.

"She is a calm young lady and thinks about the game with a level head.

"I know that 90 per cent of the game is about what is in your head and she has the right attitude and manner.

"I am sure she has the talent to go all the way in the sport."
