CHORLEY Football Club are launching a search to find the best five-a-side team in the area.
Garry Flitcroft’s promotion-chasing Magpies have hooked up with Carlsberg to create ‘The Chorley Fives’ – an end of season charity football tournament which will take place at the Chorley Group Victory Park Stadium.
The competition, which is open to businesses, pubs, Saturday and Sunday League teams, and groups of supporters from neighbouring Football League and Non-League clubs, is being staged on May 6, and the winning team stands to pocket a cool £750 – as well as the title of ‘best five-a-side team in Chorley!’
There will also be trophies for Top Goalscorer and Player of the Tournament.
The tournament is being organised as part of the club’s commitment to local Children’s Hospice Derian House, and boss Garry Flitcroft is confident it could become an annual event in the calendar.
Flitcroft said: “We came up with the idea for ‘The Chorley Fives’ as part of our ongoing commitment to Derian House.
“We want to encourage as many people as possible to enter – it’s open to companies, pubs, groups of supporters, and amateur teams from the area.
“It’s a chance to play on Victory Park and, because of the way we’ve devised the tournament, every team is guaranteed a minimum of three games. The emphasis is firmly on having fun but the eventual winners also stand to pocket £750 so it’s well worth winning.
“And who knows – we may even unearth a hidden gem or two in the process!”
A spokesman for Derian House said: “This is another great gesture by the club and we are extremely grateful for their ongoing support.”
