Kenny Mayers’ Leyland United boast a perfect record in the West Lancashire League Division Two after a 2-0 victory at Barrow Wanderers.
Leyland sit second in the league table and have won all three games.
United started the first half brightly and put Barrow under pressure in the first 20 minutes.
Martin McCubbin had the ball in the net but only for it to be disallowed aft the linesman ruled the ball had gone out of play.
Barrow grew into the game and the first half became even as Mayers’ side struggled to break down stubborn rivals.
In the second half, the home side started well and put Leyland’s rearguard under pressure.
But it held firm with new goalkeeper Danny Nix in fine form, dealing well with any long-range shots.
As the second half wore on, Leyland upped the ante and the lively Ash Ball whipped a ball in and on hand was Ryan Greenwood, who tapped in from six yards.
Colin Potts and Mike Benson then saw long-range effort sail wide of the Barrow goal as Leyland looked to build on their lead.
Substitutes Kurt Robinson and Ross Greenhalgh soon got into the action after coming on for Potts and McCubbin
In the 85th minute after a good interchange in midfield with Robinson and Greenwood, Martin Savigar broke through and rounded the keeper to slot the ball into an empty net, to make the game safe and give Leyland a valuable three points.
n Last Tuesday, Leyland United had defeated CMB 2-1. while Euxton Villa were defeated 1-0 at Fleetwood Hesketh.
On Wednesday, Charnock Richard defeated derby rivals Coppull United 2-0, with David Burrows and Damian Dashti the goalscorers.
