PUPILS from a Chorley primary school fought off some stiff competition of 30 other schools across Lancashire to represent Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates Stadium.

St Peter’s Primary School, off Eaves Lane took part in the competition on March 22 and they qualified from their group with Manor Road Primary School from Clayton le Woods.

They played four games, winning three and drawing one before reaching the semi-final where they played St. Francis Primary School where they won 1-0.

St. Peter’s then played Manor Road Primary in the final where the opposing team scored first within the first few minutes.

St. Peter’s scored in the dying seconds of the game and eventually the end result came about through penalties where St. Peter’s won 3-2.

Headteacher Helen Wright said: “We are all so proud of the children who not only played so well, but showed great team spirit on the day.

“It was a nail biting peformance and gripping football.”

“We are all still on cloud nine - we are so proud of all the lads who took part, it was an amazing day. Bring on the Emirates!!!” added the team managers Julie McClellan and Michelle Eastham.

All 20 premier league clubs will be represented by a primary school team who has taken part in similar competitions across the country
