Hot-shot Carl Grimshaw led from the front as his goal double aided Charnock Richard’s victory over Hesketh Bank and in turn, saw them crowned Premier Division champions for a fourth successive season.

Grimshaw, who now has 26 league goals to his name this season, scored either side of Mark Woods’ 51st minute strike as Charnock ran out comfortable 3-0 winners on Saturday.

Victory for Andy Westwell’s side was their 12th in a row, and means the title has been sealed with four games to spare.

The first half at Mossie Park was a real non-event as the champions struggled to break down a stubborn Hesketh outfit.

David Burrows saw his shot palmed away by visiting goalkeeper Stefan Dill while Grimshaw glanced a header well wide of goal.

But after a poor first half, Charnock came out rejuvenated thanks to Andy Westwell’s stirring team talk and they instantly took the lead.

David Fisher capitalised on a poor goal kick from Dill as he played through Grimshaw and the big striker lashed his effort past the scrambling Hesketh goalkeeper.

Charnock continued to push men forward and they added a second goal to their tally soon after.

Dill was again the Hesketh villain as his clearance was charged down by Woods.

It gave the midfielder the easiest of finishes as he turned the loose ball into an empty net.

Hesketh’s hard work had come undone and their only chance of the game saw Neil Hulme slice a shot wide from inside the box.

Charnock, without ever getting out of second gear, continued to dominate long periods of the game but chances on goal remained strangely few and far between.

Fisher, who was impressing in midfield, beat two defenders inside the area but his shot could only nestle into the side netting.

Grimshaw then failed to get on the end of a Burrows cross but 11 minutes before the final whistle he scored a second.

Fisher whipped in a cross from the right and Grimshaw instinctively met the ball with a first-time shot which nestled in the corner of the net.
