Charnock Richard 2 Fulwood Amateurs 1

A GOAL in each half by Carl Grimshaw and David Burrows were enough to see off Fulwood Amateurs at Mossie Close Road.

It was the perfect way for the hosts to celebrate manager Andy Westwell and his assistant Nigel Simmonds 10th anniversary in charge at the club.

Charnock started brightly and opened the scoring when veteran Andy Roberts laid the ball off to Burrows to slot home after two minutes.

Grimshaw and Burrows combined well up front for Charnock and had chances to extend the home sides lead including a penalty by Grimshaw being saved by the visitors’ keeper.

Charnock did not have to wait long to get a two-goal cushion as shortly after the break Grimshaw tapped the ball home from a cross by Damian Dashti.

Leading scorer Grimshaw almost added to his tally for the season but the visiting keeper denied him twice in the second half.

Fulwood pulled back a late consolation to have the final say in the game.

The win keeps Charnock in the hunt for three trophies including the league title.
