Goalkeeper Ross Baxter was Euxton Villa’s hero in helping them into the next round of the Richardson Cup at the expense of rivals Charnock Richard.
Just like most games involving these two sides, it was packed full of incident.
They could not be separated after 120 minutes and it went to penalties. It was 1-1 at full-time after Carl Grimshaw had fired Charnock Richard ahead.
Mark McDonnell’s side responded through striker Danial Hogg.
Charnock Richard veteran Andy Roberts helped to put Charnock ahead for the second time in the game.
Experienced midfielder David Heald equalised for Villa.
Both goalkeepers Adam Stone and Baxter made saves in the penalty shootout but it was Villa who progressed into the next round – 4-2 in the shoot-out.
