CHORLEY will be focussing on their push for promotion after suffering a penalty shoot-out defeat.
The visitors started brightly with defender Jonathan Smith heading a free-kick over the bar from the corner after 20 minutes.
Garry Flitcroft’s side had a penalty appeal waved on by the referee after striker Steven Burke was brought down in the box.
At the other end, goalkeeper Dean Porter was called upon to make a good save from a cross but it remained at 0-0 at half-time.
Bay took the lead on 65 minutes with a goal by Joe McMahon but the Magpies dominated the remainder of the game.
Chorley grabbed an equaliser on 85 minutes with a stike by substitute Dale Whitham from the edge of the box as the tie went into extra-time.
In the first period, Chorley had a big shout for a penalty was turned down for a foul on Mark Houghton. After the restart for the second period the home side regained the lead with a goal by Lee Davey.
The Magpies never lie down and into injury in extra-time up popped Dale Whitham with his sixteenth goal of the season.
In the penalty shoot-out Matt Jansen, Lee Woodyatt, Mark Houghton, Andy Russell, Dale Whitam and Dean Porter converted their shots while Jonathan Smith’s effort was saved to send the home side through to the next round.
