Charnock Richard showed the spirit of champions grabbing a late 1-0 victory at Vickerstown.

Former Euxton Villa striker Danial Hogg bagged an 87th-minute winner for the villagers, who extended their lead at the top of the West Lancashire Premier Divison to a whopping 4 points.

The first half had little action with the early signs showing that it was going to be a physical battle between the sides.

Vickerstown had the early chances, Steve Kowler shooting wide following a swift break, and then Gavin Bates was called upon to block a shot before the e rebound went well wide.

Liam Hayton had the best Charnock chance of the first half but his header sailed over the bar.

The second half was an even more ill-tempered affair with Vickerstown being reduced to 10 men.

Carl Grimshaw was also sent off in time added time on, but earlier in the half, Grimshaw had seen his header saved well by Stuart Eccles.

Hayton saw another header sail over the bar before manager Andy Westwell opted for a change of formation withdrawing Dashti and sending on Hogg.

And it was Hogg who could have give Charnock the league but he fired a shot over the bar after Danny Nolan expertly played him through on goal.

Just after the home side were reduced to 10 men came the goal.

A long ball into the box saw Hogg control the ball, step past a defender and fire into the bottom corner to seal a battling three points and a deserved victory.

n Euxton Villa bounced back to winning ways with a dominating 2-0 victory over Fleetwood Hesketh.

Two goals from young striker Danny Marland sealed a much-needed three points for the men in orange.

Villa started well with Marland having a chance saved in the opening minutes.

Tricky frontman Jordan Horner then had a chance which just missed the outside of the post and Dave Heald headed over.

Horner then missed a glorious chance late in the first after a fine ball over the top from Lee McKenna.

It was more of the same in the second half.

Both Horner and Marland had chances and on-loan Bamber Bridge goalkeeper Lee Dovey was a mere spectator in the Euxton goal.

The deadlock was broken after a fine piece of skill from Rick Wilson sent Marland through and the latter smashed a shot into the back of the net leaving the goalkeeper no chance.

Fleetwood tried to rally but Marland sealed the points late-on following up a fine Byron Andrew chipped effort.

n Coppull United exited the LFA Amateur Trophy losing 4-3 on penalties against Thornton Cleveleys.

Dave Parker was sent off for Coppull in a game that the away side dominated throughout the 90 minutes despite the poor quality of the pitch.

As both sides failed to break the deadlock it was left to penalties to decide it and unfortunately Coppull ran out 4-3 losers.
