Chorley girl Danielle Gibbons has returned from the University Games in Russia with a gold medal.
Gibbons, 21, played every game for Great Britain in a tournament that which has seen Tom Daley and Jessica Ennis compete.
Danielle played in the goals and impressed everyone through the fixtures.
Gibbons was delighted with her gold medal and said: “It really is a proud moment for me.
“Not only to represent Team GB but also to share the experience with everyone there was fantastic.”
Gibbons plays for Liverpool Ladies in the FA Premier Women’s Super League and this season is aiming to secure a first-team spot.
The former Preston North End goalkeeper said: “Last year I was injured a lot of the season which was tough.
“But this year winter I will be playing football for the reserve side to get plenty of game time ahead of the new super league season in the summer.”
Gibbons also received the news that she obtained a first-class degree in sports science.
She is also a partner in the family business which is North West Ironing & Dry Cleaning, where she covers advertising and marketing.
She added: “I am over the moon with my degree at the moment I’m with the business but I really want to go into sports psychology or something along those lines.”
