Chorley boss Garry Flitcroft was left ruing several missed chances after his side crashed out of the FA Cup.

Flitcroft’s men lost 4-0 to Ellesmere Port outfit Vauxhall Motors in a tie that saw the away side dominate for large spells of the game without reward.

The former Blackburn Rovers midfielder witnessed his side have a number of chances, and he felt his side’s failure to take those chances was the real turning point.

He said: “I thought we had a lot of chances first half, and sometimes when you don’t put one in, you always think to yourself they are going to get one.

“We set off second half and Darren has gone through a couple of time and he should be full of confidence scoring nine goals this season and maybe he should do a little bit better.”

Flitcroft felt that a Mark Ross mistake for the second goal meant his side were left with a real struggle.

He added: “Rossy has been great this season, and I think he will know he should have done a lot better.

“At two-nil, we were really fighting a battle.”

Flitcroft felt his side tired towards the end of the game, which could have been a contributing factor, but he was left gutted and praised the support of the fans.

He said: “With the amount of fans we brought, that was really disappointing.

“We had the majority of the crowd today, and it would have been nice to go through to the next round.”

The Magpies travel to Stamford on Saturday as they return to league duties, and Flitcroft knows his side will be going full of confidence. He said: “I’ve told the lads to have a good rest because we’ve played plenty of games.

“We are already looking forward to Saturday’s game, and we will go there in good heart and we will keep trying to win matches.”

Chorley travel to Stamford this Saturday with the club again offering subsidised travel rates. Prices are £15 adults and £10 for juniors. To book a place on the bus you can contact Cath Still on 07866774624.
