Chorley Ladies had to be on right on their game on Sunday as they beat Mossley Hill 1-0 in a top-of-the-table clash in Northern Division One.
The opening half was played at a high intensity and saw leaders Chorley hit the bar and pepper the goal of second-placed Mossley, only to be constantly denied by the in-form visiting goalkeeper.
Chorley indeed dominated throughout, but were simply unable to convert chances.
The game grew with excitement in the second half as both teams pushed for the win.
Mossley threatened but Janet Dawson ensured Chorley remained strong from the back and also led the team forward into the final 10 minutes.
And Chorley’s patience was finally rewarded with a last-minute slice of inspiration from Sam Cadwallader, who slotted through for Scarlett Smith, who emphatically found the back of the net.
Chorley are away to Stockport tomorrow, Wednesday, before having a home fixture at Charnock Richard next Sunday against Sheffield.
