Champions Charnock Richard picked up their first win in four games after defeating strugglers Tempest United in an eight-goal thriller.
The West Lancashire League outfit sit nine points clear at the top of the Premier Division aafter being one of only two fixtures to go ahead due to the bad weather.
Charnock, lining up in an unfamiliar yellow and blue kit, started strongly with David Burrows having an effort blocked by an on-rushing defender.
Charnock continued to build the pressure with Alex Porter and Mark Woods causing constant problems for the home side.
And after 15 minutes, it was Charnock who took the lead as Craig Banks crossed for Ashley Young who made no mistake putting the ball in the back of the net.
But the lead didn’t last long as Chris Farnworth picked the ball up on the half way line, dribbling to the edge of the area before firing a shot into the corner which Gavin Bates was unable to turn around the post.
Charnock continued to threaten but it was Tempest who had another effort as Sean Rothwell saw his shot comfortable saved by Bates.
But it was Charnock who re-took the lead prior to the half hour mark.
Woods picked up the ball on the right-hand side, the tricky midfielder then dribbled past two defenders before unleashing a left-footed strike gome.
Charnock went 3-1 up in the 37th minute after Mike Fletcher hit a powerful shot from the edge of the area and despite a strong hand from the goalkeeper, he couldn’t deny it from flying into the corner.
It appeared to be going all Charnock’s way at that stage.
But a minute later Tempest were back in the game, a quality build up resulted in Bates only parrying a shot and Tom Booth was on hand to hit the loose ball into the roof of the net.
Charnock made it 4-2 in the 57th minute when Burrows squared a Damian Dashti cross to Young and the latter made no mistake firing into the corner.
Carl Grimshaw had a goal dissallowed for offside before in the dying minutes Charnock grabbed their fifth.
Again more great work from Dashti saw the full-back send in a cross and sub Andy Roberts headed in at the front post to round off the Charnock scoring and seal the three points.
Tempest reduced the arrears with almost the last kick of the game as Booth tapped in but comfortable held on to claim the victory.
