Hot shot Carl Grimshaw scored twice as Premier Division champions Charnock Richard extended their unbeaten run to 17 in all competitions with a 3-0 win over Crooklands Casuals.
Grimshaw opened the scoring one minute after the half hour before scoring his 31st Premier Division goal of the season in the 89th minute.
David Burrows rounded off the scoring in stoppage time, and this victory for the Mossie Park outfit can be seen as perfect preparation for the Richardson Cup final against Fleetwood Hesketh tomorrow, Wednesday in a game being played at the County Ground in Leyland.
There was little between the two sides in the opening stages.
Andy Roberts was denied by a fine Robert Bamber save and Grimshaw’s header was cleared off the line.
The visitors had the ball in the net twice in the first 16 minutes, but both goals were disallowed for offside.
Dave Mansergh saw his eighth-minute strike chalked off after Chris Wraight interfered with play and then the latter was denied by the assistant after straying offside, when being played through by Mansergh.
But as the half progressed, Charnock started to carve out opportunities.
Grimshaw headed wide from a left-wing cross and Alex Randall stabbed a shot wide.
Liam Hayton then produced a fine, sliding challenge to deny Mansergh and the ball went straight down the other end when Charnock took the lead.
Randall released Alex Porter down the wing, his right-footed cross looped over Bamber and Grimshaw tapped the ball into the empty net.
Mark Woods then spurned a great chance when shooting wide and late in the half, Porter shot wide while Woods’ effort was cleared off the line.
Charnock’s Gavin Bates did well to block Mansergh’s effort early in the second half before Bamber pulled off a fine save pushing wide Roberts’ header.
The hosts were in control as Bamber tipped wide Grimshaw’s shot and Carl Sanderson shot wide from six yards with the goal at his mercy.
Stephen Caskie headed over for the visitors before Mansergh shot wide.
Bates’ crossbar was rattled by a shot from distance and Bamber again denied the lively Grimshaw.
Late in the half, Burrows’ lob went over and then he was clattered in the area which saw Grimshaw doubled the lead scoring from the spot.
In added time, a shot from Burrows deceived Bamber as Charnock scored a third.
