Coppull United kicked off the West Lancashire League Premier Division season in style as they thrashed Slyne with Hest.

Dave Haughton’s side were worthy 4-0 winners at Blainscough Park.

In a one-sided encounter, Ryan Steele, who joined Coppull in the summer, opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.

Ryan Salmon opened his account for the season four minutes after the half hour.

Steele scored his second of the game and Coppull’s third in the 52nd minute.

The scoring was rounded off by midfielder Callum Cant who beat the Slyne goalkeeper in the 64th minute.

Greg Johnstone’s last minute penalty sealed a point for Euxton Villa away at Hesketh Bank.

Mark McDonnell’s side opened the scoring in the 21st minute as Rick Wilson scored a fine solo effort.

But they were pegged back one minute before the interval as David Hogg slotted past goalkeeper Struan Robertson.

The hosts took the lead in the 77th minute as Dan Birkby, who played for Villa last year, scored against his former club.

Villa pressed and in the final minute they were rewarded, Johnstone calmly slotting in his spot kick to seal a 2-2 draw.

Goal machine Carl Grimshaw found the net on four occasions as reigning champions Charnock Richard defeated Crooklands Casuals 5-1.

Charnock overcame their frustrations as they were handed a 90 minute delay on the way to Cumbria.

The Villagers’ coach broke down which meant the game only kicked off at 4.10pm.

Crooklands had the better of the opening stages and took the lead in the 13th minute.

Liam Hayton clattered Dave Mensergh inside the box and the referee pointed straight to the spot.

Chris Wraight stepped up to beat Gavin Bates.

Charnock were back on level terms five minutes later.

Mark Woods whipped in a cross and Grimshaw beat his marker to the ball to head home.

The game opened up, Wraight fired wide and Grimshaw shot past the far post.

Ibukan Banigbove pulled off a fine save to deny Alex Randall and Jordan Chubb blasted over from eight yards.

Charnock dominated the second half and scored four unanswered goals.

Grimshaw scored in the 49th minute after he rounded the advancing goalkeeper and then sealed his hat-trick as he headed past a helpless Banigbove. Charnock were well in control and Jack Bennett scored Charnock’s fourth in the 69th minute.

Late on, Grimshaw scored his fourth after latching onto a Alex Randall pass.

Tonight, Tuesday, Euxton Villa host Charnock Richard whilst Coppull United are without a fixture.
