Charnock Richard extended their lead to 14 points at the top of the West Lancashire League Premier Division after a convincing 3-0 victory over Thornton Cleveleys.
Andy Roberts gave the Mossie Park outfit the lead in the eighth minute before late goals from David Fisher and Carl Grimshaw sealed a 3-0 win.
The Villagers now need seven points to retain their West Lancashire League Premier Division crown.
Playing with a brisk wind behind them, Charnock started the stronger of the two sides as Damian Dashti’s left-footed strike clipped the post and Danial Hogg’s deflected shot looping over the bar.
A series of corners saw forced the home side into some last-ditch defending and it was from another corner that the first goal came.
Alex Porter whipped in the flag-kick and despite initially being cleared, Porter sent the ball back in for Roberts, who finished well with a header and scored his 325th goal for Charnock in the process.
The table-toppers continued to press, with Dashti surging forward from full-back, just clearing the bar with one effort, while Mark Woods scuffed his shot from a Porter cross.
Keeper Gavin Bates was forced into action just after the half-hour mark, beating out a powerful shot.
Thornton started well in the second half but for all their possession they failed to trouble Bates.
At the other end, Hogg saw his shot turned round the post by Mark Smith then Roberts headed wide Porter’s cross.
Dashti then forced Smith into a save with his legs but the goalkeeper had no chance stopping sub Fisher’s rasping effort which flew in off the bar. Fisher then struck a fierce effort over the bar before two minutes from time, Dashti crossed for Grimshaw and despite the best efforts of Smith, the former’s header was ruled to have crossed the line.
