Steele’s double sends Coppull top of the table

Hot-shot Ryan Steele continued his excellent form as Coppull United completed the double over rivals Euxton Villa.

Steele, a summer signing from North West Counties outfit AFC Darwen, scored two goals in the 4-0 win at Blainscough Park.

The front-man has now bagged 16 goals in the West Lancashire Premier League as Coppull sit top of the table.

Lennie Reid, a signing from Longridge Town and Tom Entwistle were the other goalscorers.

It was a relatively even encounter until Coppull broke the deadlock.

Steele, from the back post, headed across goal and the onrushing Reid slammed the ball into the corner in the 25th minute.

Two minutes later, Entwistle found space and showed quality stroking home a left footed effort into the right corner.

Villa did have their chances but striker Dan Hogg spurned two one-on-one efforts.

Coppull put the game to bed in the 56th minute as Steele converted from the penalty spot.

Entwistle weaved his way into the area only to be sandwiched by a combination of Villa skipper Ryan Thompson and David Heald.

Steele stepped up and slotted his spot-kick in the bottom left corner with Shaun Gibbs going the opposite way.

‘Keeper Gibbs was left red faced in the 73rd minute as Coppull bagged a fourth.

The Villa shotstopper came rushing out of goal, he fluffed his attempted clearance missing the ball which handed Steele the easiest of finishes into an empty net.

Late on, George Melling was sent off by referee Andy Sykes after denying Hogg an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Charnock Richard and Eagley were involved in a 10-goal thriller at Mossie Park.

Andy Westwell’s men led four times in the game only to equalise with 15 minutes remaining in the 5-5 draw.

Carl Grimshaw returned to form bagging four of Charnock’s five goals.

David Burrows scored Charnock’s other goal.

For Eagley, Heath Ainscow scored a hat-trick whilst former Preston North End midfielder Simon Whaley got his name on the scoresheet as did Jack Horan.

The point saw Charnock slip to third in the table.

In Division Two, Croston Sports drew 0-0 with Milnthorpe Corinthians.

Leyland United had a day to forget losing 5-1 at CMB.

Callum Hall bagged a consolation goal for United.

On Saturday, Euxton Villa host Thornton Cleveleys in the Premier League.

In Division Two, Croston Sports and Leyland United both have home games.

Millom travel to Croston and Kendal County are the visitors to Leyland.

Both Charnock Richard and Coppull United take a break from the league as they’re in Lancashire FA Amateur Shield third round action.
