Victory over Villa is exactly what the Magpies needed

Midfielder Adam Roscoe felt Chorley’s victory over Euxton Villa was exactly what the team needed.

The Magpies’ pre-season form has been indifferent and they were most recently defeated 3-2 by Barrow.

But Matt Jansen’s side bounced back in true style to thrash Villa 5-1.

Roscoe, who scored one of the goals, was delighted with the performance and he admits he can’t wait for the season to start.

“Saturday was a good run out for the lads, it was exactly what we needed,” he said.

“I think we needed something like that, it got us back on track, I think we’ve competed well in pre-season against the big sides.

“Apart from the first half against Barrow which I thought we were disappointing, I think we’ve done well.

“Now we just want the season to start, pre-season is good for fitness but we want to get back to playing competitive football.”

Former Barrow forward Lewis Guy featured for the Magpies on Saturday.

Trialist Guy played in a number 10 role and linked up well with front man Aaron Burns.

And Roscoe was quick to praise the former Doncaster Rovers attacker.

“I think Lewis would be a useful addition,” he added.

“He linked up well with Aaron Burns and he just gives us something a bit different.”

Tonight, Tuesday, the Magpies travel to Ashton United before welcoming Blackburn Rovers on Friday evening.

And Roscoe expects two different types of tests.

“Both games will be a test, Blackburn will want to play a lot of football and I think Ashton will be more physical.”
