Funding crisis for Chorley Olympian

A Chorley mum is bursting with pride after watching her daughter's achievements at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

But Lynne Kemp fears a lack of funding could stop daughter Stacey from going for gold at the next Olympics in Russia in 2014.

Lynne flew to Canada to watch Stacey, 21, from Clayton-le-Woods and her partner David King, 25, skating for Team GB.

The duo skated to a personal best in the short programme and finished 16th overall.

Lynne said: "It was their first time at the Olympics. The standard was extremely high and the pressure immense."

Lynne worries that the low funding will stop the Stacey and her partner from competing in four years' time.

She said: "Canada spent $310 million in the three years up to the Olympics and Great Britain spent a really small amount in comparison."

As a result, Lynne, whose husband died in 2004, has to top up Stacey's funding.
