West Lancashire Football League
CHARNOCK Richard 4 Slyne with Hest 1
Two goals apiece from Carl Grimshaw and veteran Andy Roberts stay on top of the league with a convincing victory at Mossie Close.
Charnock kicked off playing towards the Mawdesley Plantation End and despite the strong wind took the game to the visitors.
They took the lead with nine minutes on the clock when Damian Dashti fed Tom Morgan and his pin-point cross was headed home by the unmarked Carl Grimshaw.
There were chances for the hosts to extend their lead with efforts by Grimshaw, Morgan, Chris Robinson but they failed to find the back of the net.
Charnock were made to pay for that as they raced up the field on 28 minutes to grab an equaliser which was how it remained until the break.
In the second half, veteran Andy Roberts restored Charnock’s lead when he headed home a cross by Grimshaw on 52 minutes. On the hourmark, striker Grimshaw nodded home from close-range to make it 3-1.
The hosts added a fourth goal on 72 minutes, when a free kick was floated into the box and Roberts made no mistake with the rebound to his first shot.
Manager Andy Westwell rang the changes with David Prout and Alex Porter entering the fray.
Ex-Brig and Chorley star Porter had two late chances to get his name on the scoresheet.
Dashti crossed the ball into the box and Porter’s effort grazed the outside of the post. Then when he beat the offside trap another shot fizzed past the post.
