Heather wins Chorley Tennis Club

Heather McClelland was the Ladies Open competition winner at Chorley Tennis Club's recent tournament.

Chorley MP Lindsay Hoyle was on hand to present the first ever Mary Wilson trophy in memory of the club's former honorary president.

The club and Mr Hoyle bought the trophy and it was to be awarded to the winner of the Ladies Open each year.

Heather McClelland, 23, is an Oxford graduate and had to wait a while to receive the trophy as she currently works in Germany teaching English as a foreign language.

Vice chairman of Chorley Tennis Club Barry Entwistle said: "We are very glad to ensure that Mary Wilson's enthusiasm and generosity to the club won't be forgotten.

"We wish to thank Lindsay Hoyle for his kind contribution to the Mary Wilson Cup.

"We also congratulate Heather, and look forward to the cup gracing the mantelpieces of many talented players at the club over the coming years."

Lindsay Hoyle congratulated Heather on winning the Ladies' Open and said he was especially pleased to present the new Mary Wilson Cup in memory of his friend.

He said: "Mary had varied interests and will be sadly missed by people at the Tennis Club as well as by many other local organisations and individuals."

He added: "It is appropriate that club players will be able to remember her in this way for many years to come."
