CHORLEY FC boss Garry Flitcroft believes it was important that the Magpies got back to winning ways on Saturday against Burscough.
The Victory Park outfit may have lost 3-0 against promotion rivals Chester last Wednesday night but Flitcroft is happy with the progress of his side so far this season.
He said: “To get the 2-1 win over Burscough was vital as it took us back to the top of the league.
“Psychologically it sends out a message to the rest of the teams in the league that we were not affected by the defeat to Chester.
“I told the lads last week they were not out-classed by Chester and we had competed with them for 60 minutes.”
Despite shipping three goals against Chester, Flitcroft has been impressed by his defence.
Chorley travel to Matlock Town on Saturday with leading scorer Steve Foster returning to the fold.
He said: “Matlock are 10th in the league and had a decent start to the season .
“There are no easy games in this league.
“John Cunliffe suffered an injury on Saturday but Matt Jansen is training again.”
