Magpies pick up opening day win

Evostik Premier League

North Ferriby United 1 Chorley 2

CHORLEY held off a late challenge from the home side to pick up an opening day win over North Ferriby United.

Frontmen Steve Foster and Chris Denham linked up well in the first half and former Altrincham ace Denham was on hand to head home in style from six yards.

Just three minutes after the break, the Magpies doubled their lead when Vermiglio made a surge into the box only to be tripped when he was about to pull the trigger.

Foster stepped up and slotted home the resultant spot kick.

Russell Saunders made an excellent debut in goal and when the defence was rarely breached his was in top form to keep the hosts out, but with four minutes left he was helpless to prevent a consolation goal.
