Blackrod 61 all out Adlington 62-7
Adlington 1st XI gained ample revenge for some heavy defeats by local rivals Blackrod in recent years.
The reigning champions were astonishingly bowled out for a meager 61.
The score may have considerably less, but professional Tushendra De Zoysa defied the bowlers for 98 minutes.
Blackrod had slumped to 33-8 when De Zoysa was joined by John Batey.
The ninth wicker pair added 27, Batey’s patient innings enabling De Zoysa to reach 32 before becoming Majid Majeed’s eighth victim.
Majeed continued his amazing start to the season, conceding only 18 runs in nineteen overs, and taking his tally of wickets to 28 for the season. Jack Shovelton (1-14) and a run out accounted for the remaining batsmen.
The champions made Adlington fight all the way for a victory by three wickets.
Openers Ben King and Simon Trim both scored 12.
The new leg side wide ruling this season helped Adlington edge to victory, as wickets fell to De Zoysa and Bhojani.
Zak Millington remained calm, scoring 9 priceless runs. At 48-5, Adlington took 30 minutes and lost two more wickets to score the 14 runs required to record a fourth win of the season and take second place in the table.
The 2nd XI made it a third double of the season.
Karl Jones (3-19), Martyn Jenks (2-22) made the initial breakthrough before Elliott Lee finished off the innings with 4-25 and Blackrod were all out for 112.
After Paul Busby scored 23, Adlington were themselves in trouble at 50-5, before Alan Butterworth joined Eddie Haddon (61 not out) in an unbroken partnership.
