Palace Shield Division Two

Withnell Fold 77 all out Mawdesley 80-3

Mawdesley 1st team picked up their second victory of the season with a crushing seven wicket win over Withnell Fold at Rectory Field.

Having won the toss, Darren Le Marinel invited the visitors to bat and his young opening bowling pair of Alex Berry and Mark Huyton wasted no time in applying early pressure with a nagging line & length.

Withnell were all out for 77 in 37.1 overs with Anthony Beesley top-scoring with almost half of his side’s runs on 31.

In reply, Mawdesley got off to another solid start with Brian Parr and Berry settling any nerves in the home dressing room with a steady 38 partnership before Berry departed, bowled for 23.

Parr (6) followed shortly after, leaving Matt Watkinson (14*) and Martin Williams (21) to take their team to within sight of victory with some lusty blows.

The wicket of Williams fell and it was left to Dave Whiteley (4*) strike the decisive blow & seal the victory for the home side.
