Brookfields 2

Lancaster 4th team 1

Brookfields came out on top after this tough encounter with fellow promotion rivals Lancaster 4th in Division Three of the Central Lancashire Women’s League.

The side worked relentlessly to ensure that goalscoring opportunities were created.

Soraya Rigby’s goal-line chip put Brookfields ahead and fantastic passing from the midfielder into the attacking ‘D’ gave Julie Kenyan chance to beat the keeper for a second time. Lancaster were dangerous on the counter-attack and made it 2-1 in the second half. However, Brookfields battled hard to ensure they took all the points.

Elsewhere, in the North West Counties Mens’ Hockey League Division Seven North, Leyland Foxes’ hopes of survival in the league hang on a knife-edge after a 1-1 draw with Didsbury Northern.

They made the worst possible beginning conceding a goal straight from the start.

The Foxes searched for an equaliser and were rewarded for their efforts when leading goalscorer Rahul Bamania slotted one home.

After the break, Foxes went all out for a winner but were denied by some frantic and rugged defending.

The Foxes will be hoping that local rivals Chorley Brookfields can do them a favour next week by winning against University of Salford.
