CHORLEY’s first professional boxing gym is keeping it in the family as they hope to nuture future champions.
Former WBU welterweight champion Michael Jennings has teamed up with his brother Dave and they believe their experience in the ring can help to continue to put Chorley on the boxing map.
The 34-year-old orthodox star said: “It is an exciting new challenge for me.
“Dave and I have both just got our professional badges and the wheel just keeps turning on branching out in my career.
“I like passing on my stuff to the younger kids at the gym and I think that sometimes you cannot buy what I have got.
“We already have one boxer who is turning professional and I like to watch them and put it into practice.
“Dave is great because he takes a lot of pressure off me and goes over the basics with the boxers.”
Meanwhile, Dave thinks they can pass on their wealth of knowledge to the group of young people at the gym.
He said: “We want them to stay in the area instead of going elsewhere to Manchester.
“We have got some really good lads coming through and they are progressing well.
“The proof will be in the pudding when they fight in matches whether we are working well together.
“Me and my brother are on the same wavelength.”
Michael is still training hard to get back in the ring.
The self-styled Chorley Lurcher has not fought since October 2010 and is expecting to make a comeback soon.
