Northern Cricket League
Chorley 242-5 St Annes 199-6
THE season got going a week late for Chorley as they earned an excellent winning draw on the breezy Fylde coast.
After posting a formidable total on a decent wicket, Chorley could still have been vulnerable to a powerful St Annes batting line up which included former Leyland star Peter Cummings.
Last week’s calamitous collapse came after a solid start by Holdsworth and Jack Catterall, so there were probably still some nerves when after a similar decent start, the visiting skipper skied one to become the first departure.
Catterall hit 47 as the upper and middle order held firm and a fine half century of controlled aggression from the rapidly improving Will Moulton (57) was the cornerstone of a challenging total.
Late on there was impressive knocks by Alex Weetman (36) and Iain Critchley (37) as Chorley ended on 242.
St Annes began their reply with earnest and quickly passed the half-century, but as the clouds moved in and the breeze whipping off the dunes became more biting, Iain Critchley struck twice in quick succession to put the brakes on the home progress.
However, Atiq uz Zaman stood firm for a classy ton but they fell behind the run rate.
