Newly crowned WBO European champion Jack Catterall couldn’t contain his delight after emerging victorious over Liverpudlian Tom Stalker.
Both fighters exchanged pre-fight barbs with Catterall insisting he would knock Stalker out.
The bout, which was fight of the night at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, saw Catterall dominate with tremendous right and left hands.
And Catterall was pleased with entire performance.
He said: “When Tom dives in and throws thousands of punches he’s quite easy to hit as he doesn’t move his head.
“My timing came together nicely and early on in the fight I wanted to stamp my authority.
“I knocked him down in the first and the second but fair play to him he got back up and battled on.”
Stalker, who had a fine amateur career which saw him win medals at the Commonwealth games as well as the European and World championships now has a record of 9-1, with Catterall inflicting his professional defeat on him.
21-year-old Catterall is now looking to the future and hopes more big fights are ahead.
He added: “I did want to get out before Christmas but I don’t think that will happen now, I’m looking to the future and hopefully, I’ll get more big fights.”
