Leyland and Chorley Ladies secured the Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey Association Division Two title in style as they thrashed opponents Windermere 5-0.
In a picturesque setting, four goals from hotshot Raelene Strickland and another from Paula Thornton sealed a championship-winning season with three games still left to play.
The ladies have crushed any team in their path this season and the weekend was no different as they played some exuberant hockey to which Windermere had no answer.
Leyland and Chorley started strongly and the pressure told as they took the lead after eight minutes.
Thornton managing to prod the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper after latching on to a cross.
Becca Halsall, who tormented the Windermere back line all afternoon, then crossed for Penny Robb.
Robb drew in a defender and squared the ball to Strickland and, as she has done all season, she made no mistake in finding the back of the net and doubling the lead.
It would soon be three as Anita Dickson’s strong challenge released Lisa Evans.
Evans outwitted a Windermere defender and found Sarah King, who in turn linked up with Robb, The ball was then moved on to Strickland and she dribbled into the D fbefore inishing calmly.
Despite holding a 3-0 lead at the break, the visitors were told to increase the intensity in the game and they most certainly did.
They continued to attack and pressure the Windermere back-line at any given point.
But chances were not easy to come by but when one was created, Strickland was on hand to bag her hat-trick.
Strickland then grabbed her fourth of the day and her 36th of the season to round off a fine victory in a dominant season in which they have securedg promotion to Division One of the Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey Association.
