Spectacular batting collapse sees Chorley taste defeat

The visitors went from 99-1 to 120-9 with a last-wicket stand by Edwin Moulton (14) and James Lee (18*) pushing them up to 149.

The game started half- an-hour late at 1.30pm due to morning rain but Chorley dug in despite difficult conditions.

Once skipper Ian Dickinson went for 35 and Stuart Naden (49) fell immediately afterwards the middle order collapsed.

Moulton and Lee added some late runs but it was never going to be enough and Netherfield eased home by four wickets with few real alarms. Moulton picked up two wickets for 43 runs and Ian Oakes finished with figures of two for 13.

This weekend Chorley face a triple header that could define their season. They are away to Lancaster on Saturday and at home to St Annes on Monday in the Northern Premier Cricket League Division One but inbetween that they travel to Longridge in the National Knockout third round.

The game was supposed to be at Windsor Park but they have had to switch it because the Twincess charity game is taking place there.

A spokesman said: “It will be tough as Longridge are flying high in the Palace Shield and we have one or two players unavailable including our pro (Wihan Lubbe) who’s not allowed to play as overseas professionals are not eligible.”
