Peacock's knock boosts Chorley

Furness Building Society Cup Barrow 148-9 Chorley 149-7

Chorley returned to winning ways with victory in this league cup tie against Barrow setting up a trip to Netherfield in the next round.

After having no game on Saturday, Chorley must be relieved to get back on the right track after what appears to have been a long losing trot, although three of those defeats have been in Twenty20 competition.

Jack Catterall won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Barrow to bat on a wicket which looked bowler- friendly.

The Barrow innings was soon in trouble as Billy Smith bowled a superb spell of 3-9 in eight overs including the key wicket of pro Pasan Wanasinghe.

After 20 overs Barrow were 35-4 but Chris D'Leny held things together with an unbeaten 73 as Barrow recovered in the second half of their innings to eventually finish on 148-9.

In their reply, Chorley quickly lost Andy Holdsworth but Adam Peacock and professional Chris Hartley then added 44 before Hartley, who for once never really got going, departed.

When Mike Critchley and Catterall followed in quick succession, Chorley were 67-4 after 24 overs and in need fo re-construction.

The re-building duly came in the shape of Peacock and Will Moulton.

Peacock had been badly dropped on 19 and he made Barrow pay by adding 68 with Moulton in just nine overs before being stumped for 76.

It was a was a welcome return to form for Peacock after his hundred on the opening day of the season against St Annes.

Despite losing Nigel Eastham and Smith in successive deliveries and four runs required, Moulton thumped the winning boundary to seal a three-wicket win.
