Smith hits first class high of 128
Chorley's Tom Smith has spoken of his delight after scoring his highest first class score of 128.
The Withnell Fold-based cricketer faced 306 balls in Lancashire's draw with Hampshire in the LV County Championship.
Smith completed a second wicket partnership of 134 with Mark Chilton (47) before and watched as Gareth Cross scored a maiden hundred off the last ball of the match.
Smith said: "After getting 95 here last year, it was good to go that bit further and get a hundred, especially opening the batting.
"I didn't have a great start to the season opening the batting, but when I went down the order it went well. But, unfortunately, Stephen (Moore) had a pretty bad injury and
Mooresy asked me whether I want to go back up top. It's paid off."
Lancashire have slipped down to fourth place in the Division One table and remain 23 behind leaders Yorkshire.
Smith reached his second ton this season off 229 balls with 10 fours and two maximums.
