Smuts set record in rain-ruined game
Chorley pro JJ Smuts marked his last game by beating the club batting record for a professional in his final innings.
The South Africian Smuts soon passed the seven runs he needed to surpass the 719 runs recorded by Kiwi Stuart Duff in 1987.
He made 34 off 50 balls before he was bowled by Lancaster pro Roy Silva, who played one game for Chorley last season.
Smuts flew off on Sunday to part in a South Africa Emerging Players tour of Australia having scored 747 league runs at 57.46 and taken 33 wickets at 21.64.
He scored two hundreds and three 50s.
Saturday's game was reflective of the Windsor Park side's season.
A good start was followed by a collapse. Fellow opener Jack Catterall (24) and James Reynard (37) at No 3 laid the platform for a decent total but the middle order were unable to build on it as they finished on 126-8 before the rain had the last word.
