Sports clubs shiver as weather takes its toll
Sports clubs across Chorley have been counting the cost of the big freeze.
Shaw Hill Golf Club in Whittle-le-Woods has been one of the worst affected as the course has been shut and only opened for one day in the past few weeks.
Officials from the club are hoping that the weather picks up and the course can be cleared soon so things can go back to normal.
Secretary Laurence Bateson said: "It has been very frustrating that everything is out of our control.
"With the course being closed I think the professional shop has not had anyone coming through their doors.
"We usually have four or five winter leagues running at this time but with a blanket of snow and ice it is too dangerous to play.
"It is definitely the worst year I have ever seen for not getting play on the course and I think we have lost five weekends of action since October.
"The winter league gives a chance for members to get together and use the bar as well but it is not happening.
"We cannot reschedule the fixtures as it would affect our summer league."
Lee Walmsley from Shaw Hill Hotel said: "It is having an impact on business because the course is closed.
"People are not venturing out and they cannot get in or out of the
restaurant and hotel.
"The fitness club has also been affected as some of the trainers have not got into work."
Meanwhile, Chorley FC has also been affected as they have not played a match since December 12 and their fixtures against Rossendale United, Bamber Bridge and Mossley were called off.
