Former Chorley Mayor Mary Wilson has lost her long battle with cancer.
The 64-year-old died at St Catherine's Hospice on Monday surrounded by her family.

The councillor had been ill for some time and had been the inspiration behind the Guardian's cancer campaign Mary's Prayer.

Such was her immense popularity that the campaign smashed its original target of £8,000 and ended up raising £53,000.

Last year Mary's husband Jack, a former leader of Chorley Council, and youngest son John, 39, died within two months of each other of heart conditions.

A full tribute will appear in Wednesday's Guardian.
