The asking price of £799,950 is signicantly less than the cost to housebuilders Barratt and Redrow of restoring it within the Buckshaw Village redevelopment but heritage bosses say it's impossible to put a price on preserving the Elizabethan manor house.

Henry Owen-John, regional director of English Heritage said: "We are so pleased with the success of the house, when we first came along it was dangerous being in the high risk category. We think every building deserves a second chance and that is why we are so proud."

Simon Malam, architect from Donald Insall Associates, who worked on the project said: "Worden Old Hall is a great example of how derelict historic buildings can be given a new lease of life. We have used the traditional methods of building the house."
