A celebration has been planned for the same time as Preston gets set to salute the armed forces at the city’s Flag Market.

Armed Forces Day will return to the city on June 25, when an event for all the family has also been organised.

Familyfest has been planned by Preston Business Improvement District (BID), and is hoped to attract crowds from across the region.

The Voice winner Kevin Simm will be joined by X Factor champion Matt Cardle, and Britain’s Got Talent winner Jai McDowall.

They will be supported by other performers including Sam Callaghan, Tiger Heart, who recently supported Peter Andre on his sell-out national tour, Janet Devlin, Hana Joy, Gabz, and District 12, tipped to be Britain’s next big boyband.

They will perform live from a specially-created stage on the balcony of the Harris Museum.

The show will be presented by radio’s Danny Bee, and it will also feature special guest appearances from stars from the international wrestling circuit, who will be appearing at the Guild Hall that evening.

Preston BID manager, Mark Whittle, said the event would be a “great, free, day out with lots of interaction”, hoped to draw in the crowds.

He said: “This is a stellar line-up for our family-friendly event and one that will hopefully attract a large crowd into Preston.

“Our headliner performers are all credible artists in their own right and have enjoyed the support of millions of people in their performing career and through television.

“It promises to be a great, free, day out with lots of interaction.

“At the same time, however, I hope those in attendance will also show their gratitude to the Armed Forces who do so much in protecting our country.”

Familyfest runs from 1pm to 4pm as part of Armed Forces Day, which gets under way at 10am.

Sponsored by the North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, the day celebrates the city’s serving soldiers, their families and the city’s connection with the armed forces.
