Chorley Empire Community Cinema has announced its new season of films to be shown at the Little Theatre.

The season opens on Sunday with Hitchcock.

Anthony Hopkins stars as the legendary film-director, with Helen Mirren as his long-suffering wife Alma.

The film, right, shows the behind-the-scenes struggles the two encountered as they tried to make the classic horror Psycho

The new version of The Great Gatsby follows on Sunday, September 29, with feelgood British comedy Papadopoulos and Sons on October 13.

The season continues with Michael Douglas starring as legendary pianist Liberace in Behind The Candelabra on October 29.

Former Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens makes his big-screen starring debut in romantic drama Summer In February on November 10, and the season finishes with Simon Pegg’s science fiction comedy The Worlds End on November 24.

On Thursday afternoons there’s a showing of 1947 thriller It Always Rains On Sunday, and the recent British farce Run For Your Wife, with a cast list including Judi Dench, Cliff Richard and the late Richard Briers.

Chairman Eddie Robinson said: “We always like to support the British Film Industry so are showing some great films that people might not have a chance to see elsewhere. They all look great on our big screen with surround sound.”

Disney Pixar’s latest animation Monsters University provides half-term fun on Thursday, October 31.

Entry to the evening films cost £4 (or £16 for a season ticket) with afternoon showings costing £2.50.
