Japanese rocks as Bo Ningen return to Ferret

Impenetrably cool Japanese rockers Bo Ningen return to bring their mindbending sounds back to Preston’s Mad Ferret tomorrow night.

The London based four piece garage psyche band last brought their bruising jams and effortless onstage wig outs to the Fylde Road late last year where they played to a jam packed house.

Beloved by fans of psyche rock, they fuse elements of J-Rock with kraut-rock, metal, hardcore and funk to create crushing soundscapes with vocal sung in their original Japanese.

In Japan, they have signed a deal with major label, Sony Music Associated Records.

On stage, the quartet, composed of singer and bassist Taigen, guitarists Kohhei and Yuki and drummer Monchan make a compelling sight with their superslim frames - the name “Bo Ningen” translates as “stick men” - clad in psychedelic smocks and loon pants and sporting bare feet and chest length straight black hair.

They formed in 2006 when Taigen and Kohhei met in London and subsequently recruited Yuki and Monchan.

They began touring London and the rest of the UK and, with their incendiary live shows, quickly built a solid reputation.

They have stunned crowds at many festivals including End Of The Road, and have also performed live sessions for radio shows including Marc Riley.

They played a live score to accompany the 2001 Japanese animated short Cat Soup at the 2010 Branchage film festival in Jersey, repeating the performance in London, in March 2011.

The Guardian’s Paul Lester said of them: “Often the tempo changes are bewilderingly complex, while elsewhere there are slabs of rock rubbing up against and ricocheting off the spaciest prog. How about Faust meets Fugazi? Now you’re getting somewhere.”

Support at the Fylde Road pub comes from another London based band, Deaf Club, and the show will be opened by noisy all female Manchester trio, Mr Heart, who have supported The Fall on tour and who made a big impact when they played there in February this year.

Doors open for the show at at 8pm and entry will be £5. For details, see www.themadferret.net Advance tickets are still available online at www.seetickets.com/event/bo-ningen/mad-ferret/702363
