The Bonnie Mac Band, BJ’s Rock in the Blues Club at The Minstrel in Eaves Green
The Bonnie Mac Band returned to BJ’s Rock in the Blues Club at The Minstrel in Eaves Green last Thursday to give a fantastic show of blues and blues/rock.
This four-piece band from West Yorkshire have over the last two years or so entertained in venues both sides of the Pennines in pubs and Blues festivals.
And they can also be enjoyed at the Great British R&B Festival in Colne which takes place from August 28-31.
Their line-up is spearheaded by Sheila McFarlane on vocals, with her ever increasing vocal range certainly suiting the band’s move to more of a rock/blues genre.
The maestro on lead guitar/rhythm guitar is Geoff Waddington who nails the riffs superbly, a musician of the highest calibre whether its blues or rock.
In the boiler house, the rhythm section comprises Craig Jackson on a thumping bass and John Sharpe on drums.
They were brilliant and consistent, so there was no let up here.
Their first set hit us with Little by Little, Breeze, Blues is My Business and Trouble No More which set the bar high.
The second set included covers by Gary Moore, Free, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Dooby Brothers and ZZ Top before finishing off with Sweet Home Chicago and Road Runner.
In the not too distant future, we should be seeing a new CD with original tracks penned by the band.
