The Riverside Trio + Doug Perkins & the Spectaculars are going unplugged for a special night in Preston next week.
The event – at the Continental on Friday, July 18 from 8pm – offers a rare opportunity to capture the famous Riverside Trio as they celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the release of their hit album Flat Broke.
The trio, now augmented with added percussion, will be featuring tracks from this legendary album in addition to some great rockabilly.
Riverside Trio first gained popularity in the mid-1980s. When most Rockabilly bands were performing in the more modern Neo-Rockabilly style, the Riverside Trio looked back to the music’s roots and played very authentic mid-50s style Rustic Rockabilly and Hillbilly Bop.
They were one of the first bands of the period to play as a stripped-down, drumless trio – the way that Rockabilly was originally performed – with the slapped double bass providing the driving percussive rhythm.
Meanwhile, Doug Perkins and The Spectaculars are the authentic, four-piece, rock n’ roll and rockabilly band. Recreating the unique sounds of the 1950s, the band emulate the greats from Presley to Perkins and Cochran to Cash with their own original material and their rockabilly arrangements of popular songs.
