Pro-wrestler Jonny gets to grips with fame and fortune as unique company tackles celebrity culture
A special group of Lancaster actors have been getting to grips with their latest roles – in more ways than one.
The Shattering Images theatre company have added muscle to their forthcoming show at The Dukes – in the shape of professional wrestler Jonny Phere.
Jonny, previously known as The Pyschotic Warrior, will appear in When. Will. I. Will. I. Be Famous at the Lancaster theatre on May 21 and 23.
Jonny, a wrestler for 13 years, will play himself in a production inspired by TV talent shows.
Just days before The Dukes play opens, he will also appear in the ITV series Weekend Escapes with Warwick Davis.
In When. Will. I. Will. I. Be Famous, a girl is obsessed with wrestling and her dream is to share the ring with a professional – which is where Jonny comes in.
Some characters in the play are based on the actual cast members’ obsessions with One Direction and X Factor.
Most of the cast are aged 16-40 and have learning needs.
They helped devise and create this annual production, which promises to be a thought-provoking musical full of belly laughs.
When. Will. I. Will. I. Be Famous is on Wednesday, May 21, at 1pm & 7pm, then on Friday, May 23, at 7pm.
Tickets cost £6.47/£4.47 concs(includes 47p per ticket online booking fee) and are available through the box office on 01524 598500 or at www.dukes-lancaster.org
Shattering Images provide high quality theatre, film and music training for young adults with learning disabilities which leads to one ensemble theatre production annually.
