Attendances at the first two Lytham Hall open air theatre shows of the season are up by over 10 per cent.

Illyria’s performance of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream last Friday was widely praised by an appreciative audience approaching 450.

I was delighted to see so many young people there

Stephen Rector, managing director of Ribble Packaging in Oldham, one of this season’s new Patrons, felt that it was the open air best show he had seen at Lytham Hall.

“My family thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The play was inventive, full of comedy and always clear and audible,” he said. “I was delighted to see so many young people there”.

Emma Vickery, company manager for Illyria who played Puck, praised the attentiveness of Lytham Hall audience and the welcome the cast received at Lytham Hall.

She said: “After a thorough soaking in North Yorkshire the previous evening we were delighted with the warm welcome from everyone at Lytham Hall. It really inspired us to put on one of the best performances in our summer tour so far.”

Julian Wilde, organiser of the open air theatre season, said: “I was thrilled to have such a large and responsive audience.”
