Shakespeare’s Othello is just one of the highlights of Preston’s continuing Tringe Festival this week.
The Bard’s tragedy is performed at the city’s New Continental in South Meadow Lane tomorrow and Thursday, by Lancashire-based Theatre by Numbers, before they stage it Manchester next month, ahead of a New Year tour.
Othello (Amine Fourket), is led by Iago (Andy Avery) into a dark and twisted world of fear, anger and jealousy.
Rebecca Derrick plays the wronged Desdemona and other characters.
Collaborating with various artists to tell a thriller which deals with the darker side of love, Theatre By Numbers will use movement and an original musical score by Tom Woolsgrove.
Nicole Gaskell also takes on multiple roles as the young and charming Cassio, accused of seducing Desdemona, and Emilia, Iago’s wife and duped accomplice.
By placing Othello in a timeless setting, the story is told with a modern attitude.
Theatre By Numbers is a theatre company producing work across the North West and since 2010 they have produced a range of theatre events, including children’s performances, comedy and hard hitting dramas. Their portrayal of The Tempest, which toured in 2010 was met with great reviews.
